Björn Koorem - new General Manager for Aitik

Björn Koorem, aged 49, has been appointed General Manager for Boliden's Aitik mine as of 1st September 2010.  

Björn's most recent position was at LKAB, where he has spent the past few years serving as the Mine Manager at Malmberget. Björn has also previously been employed by Boliden - as a Project Manager at the exploration department and as a Mine Manager in the Boliden Area. Björn is a trained Mine Engineer and graduate of Luleå University of Technology. 

The Aitik open pit mine is Boliden's largest mine. Aitik mines copper ore with some gold and silver content. Boliden has implemented an expansion project from 2007-2010 that will double the mine's ore production to 36 million tonnes per year. In tandem with positive exploration results, the expansion project will extend Aitik's lifespan from 2016 to 2029.

Som en följd av mer detaljerade studier av malmkroppen har Boliden uppdaterat Mineraltillgångar och Mineralreserver i Kevitsa. Uppdateringen indikerar att både Mineraltillgångar och Mineralreserver ökar jämfört med föregående år. Genomsnittshalten för Mineralreserven beräknas att öka till 0,22 procent för nickel (NiS*) medan kopparhalten förblir oförändrad 0,31 procent. Halterna för nickel och koppar för 2025 uppskattas till 0,17 procent respektive 0,23 procent. Dessutom har tidpunkten för beslut kring ett möjligt Omtag 5-projekt flyttats fram ett par år.
