ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Certificate to Harjavalta Copper’s Copper Refinery in Pori

Harjavalta Copper Oy’s Copper Refinery in Pori has received today the ISO 14001 Environmental Certificate, granted by SFS-Inspecta Certification Oy, as proof of the official approval of the Environmental Management System according to the ISO 14001 -standard. Before, the environmental issues of Copper Refinery were managed according to the EMAS – the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme -standard. With this new certificate all functions of Harjavalta Copper in Harjavalta, Pori and Espoo are united under the one and same Environmental Management System.

Regarding the certified management systems Harjavalta Copper Oy is among the top companies, because the quality control, occupational health and safety management, and environmental certificates are covering all its activities. Management systems help the company to secure the continuous and systematic improvement in all its functions.

Harjavalta Copper Oy belongs to the new Boliden group. The company refines copper and smelts nickel concentrates in Harjavalta, and produces copper cathodes in Pori. The commercial activities are in Espoo. In 2003, the sales of the company were 403 million euros and the number of personnel approximately 430.

Today, the world's most climate-efficient zinc smelter is inaugurated. The occurrences create challenges and mean that the production rate for the first quarter is estimated to be just over 9 Mtonnes. For the full year 2025, production is estimated at close to 40 Mtonnes. The copper grade is estimated at 0.16%, which is in line with what was previously communicated.
