Boliden invests in new cleaning system at Rönnskär

Boliden is investing SEK 101 million in a new cleaning system for process gases emitted from the copper smelter at Rönnskär, Skelleftehamn. The investment will lead to a capacity increase corresponding to 15,000 tonnes of finished copper per year as well as an increase in the annual results of approximately SEK 40 million.

"This investment will generate both increased revenues and cut costs," says Jan Johansson, President and CEO for Boliden. The new cleaning system means that the throughput at Rönnskär's smelting facilities can be further increased and that the converter hall, where raw copper is produced, will become more efficient.

The investment comprises a new dust filter, based on hot gas EGR-technology, as well as peripheral equipment and installations. In addition to a reduction in dust emissions, the new gas cleaning system will also reduce maintenance and deposit costs. The system is expected to come on-line in autumn 2007.
